Discover Visions of Sugarplums' secret ingredient to the holiday event
By Kristine Thomas
On a rainy September morning, more than a dozen volunteers gathered for a work party
to craft 50 chicken pot pies
to be sold at the 17th annual
Visions of Sugarplums Bake
& Craft Sale on Saturday, Nov.
14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
SHARC, 57250 Overlook Rd.
The pies are 50 of 3,844
items to be sold at the event,
featuring everything from
aprons and toys to cookies
and snack mixes. In 16 years,
Visions of Sugarplums has
raised more than $380,000 to
benefit nonprofit organizations
in Deschutes County, with the
amount steadily increasing over
the last several years. Ronda
Floyd and Linda Porter are Visions of Sugarplums co-chairs.
Standing by the stove, Linda
Saddler and Kristin Yurdin
measured various ingredients
including peas and carrots
into a stockpot. Nearby, Dee
Henderson chopped cooked
chicken. Vicki Udlock sliced
onions. Chris Baldwin, Vicki
Shea, Carol Barret, Susan Miller, Paula Matthieu and Kim
Rogers rolled pie dough balls
into 5-inch circles. Monica
Mack used pie dough to create chickens to be placed on
the pies.
“I jokingly call this the Henry Ford School of Cooking,”
Henderson said, causing several
bursts of giggles.
While the morning was filled
with laughter, chatter, cooking advice and even someone
teasingly throwing flour, the

volunteers are serious about
why they dedicate their time
to the event.
“There are many people in
our community who need
assistance and they turn to
nonprofit agencies who need
financial assistance to help their
clients,” Udlock said. “That’s
where we are able to help by
raising money for nonprofits
through the sale.”

Her mom is also the reason
