(1970 - 1994)
Oct. 29, 3-4:30 p.m. at
SHARC
The Sunriver we all enjoy
today didn’t just happen. There
were ups and downs along the
way. John will share the highs

The History of Sunriver Part
3, Turning Sunriver into a
World-Class Residential and
Recreational Community
(1994 - present)
There was a period of our history when Sunriver was in a sad
situation. Sunriver was living
on its laurels while the world
around us was changing. Our
infrastructure was deteriorating
and there wasn’t any appetite to
invest to revitalize the resort.
Meanwhile, new resorts were
being developed, our competitor resorts were modernizing,
and Bend was expanding and
promoting itself as a destination spot. Find out what the
Resort, SROA, and the various
rental companies did to turn
the community around and
make it the great community
it is today.
About the presenter:
John Salzer first visited
Sunriver in 1969, the same year
the original master plan was
drafted to transform the former
Camp Abbot site into a resort
and residential community. After vacationing in Sunriver for
more than 30 years, he made it
his permanent home in 1999.
Over the past two decades, John
has been an active community
leader, serving with numerous nonprofit organizations,
on the boards of the Sunriver
Owners Association and the
Sunriver Service District, and
as a member of the team that
helped create SHARC. Having
watched Sunriver grow and
evolve for more than half a
century, he brings a unique personal perspective and extensive
knowledge of the community's
remarkable history.
Your Mind at Work: How
Thoughts Shape Emotions
Oct. 28, 2 to 3:30 p.m. at
SHARC
Presented by Roberta Stopler
Have you ever noticed how
one small thought can suddenly
change your entire mood? The
way we think has a powerful
influence on how we feel—and
how we act. In this engaging
and practical class, you’ll explore the connection between
your thoughts, emotions, and
behaviors. Led by a licensed
psychotherapist specializing
in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), you’ll
learn how everyday beliefs and
thought patterns can sometimes create unnecessary stress,
anxiety, or frustration. REBT is
a practical, problem-solving approach to psychology that helps
people recognize and challenge
unhelpful thinking. By learning
to identify unhealthy beliefs
and replace them with more
balanced perspectives, you can
reduce emotional stress and
make healthier choices.
In this class you will:
• Discover how thoughts
influence feelings and behavior
• Learn to recognize common thinking patterns that
create stress
• Practice simple techniques
for challenging unhelpful
beliefs
• Gain tools for responding to life’s challenges in
healthier, more productive
ways
Whether you're looking to
better manage stress, improve
emotional resilience, or simply
understand your mind a little
better, this class offers practical
insights you can use right away.
Roberta Stopler is a cognitive behavioral psychotherapist with more than 40 years
of experience specializing in
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). Stopler
earned her master’s degree from
the University of Oregon and
a postgraduate certification in
organizational counseling from

has been a resident of Sunriver
for more than fifteen years.

Seeing field markings and don’t know what they mean?
Starting in September, Sunriver Owners Associations’Natural Resources staff members are preparing approximately150
acres of Sunriver commons for Ladder Fuels Reduction work scheduled for 2027. Different field markings inform our
contractors of what work to do and where to do it.
Hot pink flagging is tied around metal rebar property pins.
Light pink flagging is hung along approximate property boundaries between SROA commons and private property.
Pink tied to blue flagging indicates a sharp direction change in a property line.
Green paint is applied by staff on trees that are to be removed on SROA commons.
Please do not alter or remove any field markings placed by staff. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the
SROA Natural Resources Department at naturalresources@srowners.org or 541-593-1522.
