Sept. 22, 4 to 5:30 p.m. at
SHARC. Presented by Marisa
Chappell Hossick, Deschutes
River Conservancy
The Deschutes River has
sustained life in Central Oregon for thousands of years,
but managing water in the high
desert is one of the region's
most complex and consequential challenges. Marisa Chappell Hossick of the Deschutes
River Conservancy will walk us
through how water is allocated
in the basin, and how collaborative, voluntary approaches
are helping farms, rivers, fish
and communities work toward
a more sustainable balance.
Marisa Chappell Hossick
has spent more than 16 years
at the Deschutes River Conservancy, initially as outreach
manager and now as director

Medicare works, important
enrollment timelines, and resources available to help you

the educational seminar, there
will be a separate, optional presentation for those who wish to
learn about specific Medicare
plans available in the area and
the costs associated with each.
Students are welcome to leave
after the educational session or
remain for the optional plan
discussion. Those attending
the optional presentation will
not be able to sign up for or

ment. From supplements and
powders to claims about boosting immunity, improving brain
function, and fighting disease,
medicinal mushrooms are everywhere. But how much of the
hype is supported by science?
In this engaging and evidencebased presentation, pharmacist
and mushroom enthusiast
Nancy Pietroski explores the
potential health benefits of medicinal mushrooms and what
researchers have and haven't
discovered. Learn about some
of the mushrooms attracting
the most attention, the claims
being made about them, what
the scientific evidence tells us,
and where marketing may be
getting ahead of the research.
Whether you're a mushroom
forager, a curious consumer, or
simply wondering if that mushroom supplement is worth the
money, you'll come away better
equipped to separate promising
science from magical thinking.
Nancy Pietroski is a pharmacist with specialized training in
wilderness medicine and travel
medicine and lives in Three
Rivers. She serves on the board
of the Central Oregon Mushroom Club. An avid mushroom
forager, Nancy enjoys searching
for wild mushrooms wherever
her travels take her. She is also
venturing into the world of
wild edible plants, an endeavor
she readily admits is considerably harder than mushroom
foraging!
