Annual shred, drug disposal event coming in July
On Saturday, July 11 from 9
a.m. to 11 a.m., the Sunriver
Police Department will sponsor its annual shredding and
prescription medication
drop-off event.
The drop will be held in the
back parking lot of the SROA
administration building, 57455
Abbot Drive (between Circles
3 & 4 next to the police and
fire departments).
This event is intended for
personal residential document
shredding and prescription only
drug disposal, not for business
or company disposal.
No advance document sorting is necessary as shredding
equipment can destroy paperwork with paper clips and
staples attached. File folders also
may be shredded.
Please black out or re-
move the labels from prescription drug bottles that
contain medication before
bringing them to the event.
Although the event is free to
the public, a suggested donation of non-perishable foods
will benefit a local nonprofit
organization.
For additional information,
contact the Sunriver Police
Department at 541-593-1014.
BLM, Wildland Fire Service announce summer fire restrictions
In May, fire restrictions went
into effect for all Bureau of
Land Management administered lands throughout Oregon
and Washington.
The BLM and U.S. Wildland
Fire Service leaders encourage
all visitors to be aware of active
restrictions and closures as
warmer, drier weather sets in
around the Pacific Northwest.
These fire restrictions help re-
duce the risk of human-caused
fires. The use of fireworks,
exploding targets or metallic
targets, steel component ammunition (core or jacket), tracer
or incendiary devices, and sky
lanterns are prohibited.
"We are increasingly concerned that 2026 could rival
the most extreme years on
record for heat and dryness
in the Pacific Northwest,” Jeff
Fedrizzi, U.S. Wildland Fire
Service, Assistant Chief of Operations for the Pacific Northwest, said. “Every visitor must
understand that even one small
spark can lead to a costly and
destructive fire in these highimpact conditions.”
People who violate the prohibition may be fined up to
$100,000 and/or imprisoned
for up to 12 months. In addi-
tion, those found responsible
for starting wildland fires on
federal lands can be billed for
the cost of fire suppression.
Please visit www.blm.gov/

on seasonal fire restrictions and
fire closures.
