written comments that were
forwarded to the Board but also
spoke virtually. Mr. Fuller commented about multiple Ponderosa Pine trees that he would
like to remove on his property
and the request and response
to/from the SROA Natural Resources Department. He stated
that he obtained an arborists
report and also cited defensible
space guidelines that all support
his request to remove the trees.
He is requesting follow up and
approval from the Natural Resources Department.
• Mr. Lawson spoke about
the failure of the CTF measure
during the annual election.
He stated that the Board did
not listen to owners and that
a website that he operates
included reasons why owners
did not support the measure
– that those reasons forgo a
need for a follow-up poll of
owners. He also stated that
letters submitted to the Board
need to be attached to/made
available with the minutes for
the Board meetings – they need
to be made available in full for
owners to read. He stated that
his past comments were not
available to owners.

that must be accomplished. We
rely extensively on help from
the community, which is why
there are so many committees
and taskforces and chances
for input.
Finally, I’d like to end this
message with a great story. I
was in the Village recently with
my 5-year-old grandson. We
were standing in line at a coffee
shop, and he saw two Sunriver
police officers. He knew that
his great-grandfather, my late
father-in-law, had been a police officer. We stepped out of
line and walked over to meet
the officers. They immediately greeted him, handing
him a sticker that looked like
a Sunriver Police badge. One
of the officers offered to show
include new wood fences
at the North and South RV
yards, $60,000, public works
yard perimeter fence and
gate, $42,000, resurfacing the
North, Meadow and Cottonwood Tennis Courts, $81,831.
And a new chain link backstop
was installed at the baseball
field in Fort Rock Park for
$7,690.
Some less exciting investments helped SROA save mon-
ey over time. For example, an
asphalt grinder and road striper
were purchased to allow staff to
complete work that was previously done by outside contractors; those items cost $32,000.
SHARC water heaters and
the spray pad controller were
replaced at a cost of $27,500.
A major project scheduled
for this fall is a pathway tunnel under River Road near the
Nature Center. The $640,000
anticipated cost for this tunnel is higher than normal due
to liquefiable soils in the area
which required additional engineering solutions. A temporary
road will also be needed to access the marina, Mary McCullum Park, Skypark residences,
and the airport. The tunnel is
scheduled for completion in
November.
These are just some of the
projects funded this year
through SROA’s reserve fund
and new capital budget to
enhance your enjoyment of
Sunriver. Our staff and board
work hard to provide and
improve the amenities that
keep Sunriver a premium
resort community.

him the patrol car. He let my
grandson get in, turn on the
lights, then showed him all the
features of the car, and of the
vest he was wearing. By the
end, my grandson was grinning
ear-to-ear. He will never get to
know his great-grandfather,
but now he knows that police
officers are kind people with
really cool cars and gadgets!
That interaction is typical of
the great community we have
in Sunriver. People take the
time to help, teach and listen
to each other, even when they
have demanding jobs. I’ve seen
this, too, with the SROA staff,
time and time again. They
always seek to understand,
and answer respectfully and
thoroughly. I’ve never seen this
in any other community, and
it is very special and unique. I
encourage everyone to please
not take it for granted.
