Rotary Club of Sunriver-La Pine welcomes new officers, celebrates its achievements
By Lee Haroun
Mary McCallum Park is a
lovely setting for a special event.
On June 28, the members of
the Rotary Club of Sunriver-La
Pine officially welcomed new
and continuing officers with a
“changing-of-the-guard” ceremony. Three members began
their new roles on July 1.
Brandy Odekirk is the club
president, Doug Anez is president-elect and Meagan Iverson
is vice president. Continuing in
their current positions are Pam
Beezley as secretary and Jami
Steinhauer as the treasurer.
After the induction, members enjoyed a picnic lunch
and reflected on the work of
Rotary International, the lo-
cal community that the club
serves, and the projects they
have completed the past year.
They first shared a recap of
Rotary International, which
has 1.2 million members in
45,000 clubs worldwide with
projects focused on promoting
peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, sanitation and
hygiene, improving maternal
and child health, supporting education, growing local
economies, and protecting
the environment.
The Rotary Club of Sunriver-La Pine awarded grants
totaling $31,400 to 22 vetted
organizations; awarded a total
of $9,000 in scholarships for
higher education to nine La
Pine high school graduates;
gave books to all first graders
in south Deschutes County
through the Gift of Literacy
program; and gifted poinsettias at Christmas time to the
residents of Little Deschutes
Lodge in La Pine.
These grants and donations
were made possible through
the fundraising efforts of the
club’s members. The major
event took place on June 13
and raised more than $44,000.
Thanks to the generosity of the
owners of the Village Bar &
Grill, the club netted proceeds
of $2,422 from Bingo games
held in the bar. Finally, the
E-Bike raffle generated $1,100.
