classes require registration, no
later than 24 hours prior to the
scheduled class time. Popular
classes and those with limited
capacity often reach maximum
capacity quickly. When a class
reaches capacity, students may
join the waiting list.
The Deschutes: Water, Rivers
and Balance
Tuesday, Sept. 22 from
4 to 5:30 p.m. at SHARC.
Presenter: Marisa Chappell
Hossick, Deschutes
River Conservancy
The Deschutes River has
sustained life in Central Oregon for thousands of years,
but managing water in the high
desert is one of the region's
most complex and consequential challenges. Marisa Chappell Hossick of the Deschutes
River Conservancy will walk us
through how water is allocated
in the basin, and how collaborative, voluntary approaches
are helping farms, rivers, fish
and communities work toward
a more sustainable balance.
She has spent more than 16
years at the Deschutes River
Conservancy, initially as outreach manager and now as
director of communications.

In that role, she shapes how
the organization tells its story
through writing, photography,
design, media relations and
community learning events. A
Bend native and French speaker
with a background in teaching
and visual arts, she is passionate
about finding the human side
of water policy and making it
accessible to anyone who calls
this basin home.
Medicare 101 - What You
Need to Know About
Medicare
Thursday, Oct. 8 from
4 to 5:30 p.m. at SHARC.
Presenter: Cheri Martinen,

Navigating Medicare can
feel overwhelming, but understanding your options doesn't
have to be. This educational
seminar is designed for individuals who are currently
enrolled in Medicare or who
will be turning 65 soon.
During the educational portion of the seminar, you'll learn
the fundamentals of Medicare, including Part A, Part B,
Medicare Advantage, Medicare
Supplement (Medigap), and
Learn about sustainability and the Deschutes River this September.
Part D prescription drug coverage. Martinen will explain
how Medicare works, important enrollment timelines, and
resources available to help you
make informed decisions about
your healthcare coverage.
Following the conclusion of
the educational seminar, there
will be a separate, optional presentation for those who wish to
learn about specific Medicare
plans available in the area and
the costs associated with each.
Students are welcome to leave
after the educational session or
remain for the optional plan
discussion. Those attending
the optional presentation will
not be able to sign up for or
purchase plans at this event
but will be able to schedule an
appointment to discuss their
