Rotary Club of Sunriver-La Pine awards 10 scholarships to local students

The members of the Rotary
Club of Sunriver-La Pine are
honored to award scholarships to eight La Pine High
School graduates, one Gilchrist
graduate, and one homeschooled student.
All the students have been
accepted to colleges, universities
or trade schools.
Each student submitted an
essay explaining their education
and career goals, letters of reference, and transcripts.
In addition to their academic
achievements, they have been
involved in athletics, volunteer work that includes leadership positions, and part-time
paid work.
The applications contained
inspirational stories of students
overcoming challenges, committing to doing the hard work
they realize is needed to achieve
a healthy, productive life, and
having a desire to help others.
Investing in the education of
local youth is a proven way to
improve lives.

The club is pleased to
award scholarships to the
following graduates:
• Elija Archer has been accepted at Bushnell University in
Eugene to study Christian Ministry. Inspired after attending a
Christian summer camp and
working with his youth pastor,
he hopes to help others as they
have helped him.
• Abbie Barrett will attend
Central Oregon Community
College and Oregon State University with the goal of becoming a teacher. Encouraged by her
kindergarten teacher’s methods
of working with students, she
hopes to help students learn to
think without depending on
artificial intelligence.
• Cailin Fike has been admitted to George Fox University where she plans to major
in kinesiology, followed by
obtaining a master’s degree
in occupational therapy. She
based her career choice on
her desire to help patients
overcome challenges.
• Katelyn Morris will attend
George Fox University with the
goal of becoming a pediatric
nurse. She wants to help children and families who are facing
difficult health situations.
• Rylee Russell has been
accepted at Blue Mountain
Community College, Treasure
Valley Community College,
and College of Southern Idaho
all of which she will tour before
making her final choice. She has
participated in rodeos during
her four years of high school
and plans to earn degrees in

agricultural business and diagnostic ultrasound technology.
• Mylee Scott is interested
in radiological science and will
pursue a degree at Oregon Institute of Technology to study
echo-cardiology, nuclear medicine and X-ray technology. She
hopes she can help the patients
she works with to overcome fear
and feel comfortable.
• Jane Seymour plans to
attend Blue Mountain Community College for an associate
degree, then Oregon Institute
of Technology for a bachelor’s
degree in diagnostic medical
sonography. Her ultimate goal
is to help patients regain their
independence.
• Elise Smith will attend
Central Oregon Community
College for an associate degree
in nursing. Her experience
with a kind, caring nurse after
suffering a painful injury when
she was 7 years old inspired her
to choose this profession with
the goal of helping others.
• David Taylor will choose
between Shasta Junior College,
River Umpqua Community
College and Feather Community College to study for a degree
in business. His career goals are
to build an athletic training facility and apparel line. When his
businesses become profitable,
he wants to provide scholarships
to students and donate to mental health facilities.
• Ryan Zimmerman has
dreamed of becoming a
large-vehicle truck driver since
childhood and will train for that
career at IITR Truck School in
Redmond. He will work to earn
a class A Commercial Driver’s
License to operate semitrucks
and tractor trailers. He was
inspired by the equipment and
operators who helped clear debris when his family lost their
home in the 2018 Camp Fire.
