Why are you seeking a seat on the SROA board of directors?
I am seeking a position on the SROA
Board in order to bring my experience and
knowledge to bear in continuing to improve
Sunriver. Most homeowners associations
(HOAs) around the country are facing the
challenge of rapidly rising costs to maintain
infrastructure and amenities, let alone make
improvements. In addition, HOAs face environmental challenges from weather, invasive
species, incompatible development, and many
others. Experienced leadership is essential to
work with staff, seek owner participation and
achieve a creative yet practical vision for the
future. I also see the need to find new, nonowner-sourced funding while being careful to
control spending.
In 1988, when I first moved to the Pacific
Northwest, I discovered Sunriver. I have loved
it since. My husband and I have been property
owners and community members here for
nearly three decades, enjoying all that this
community offers with our family and friends.
My intention in seeking a seat on the board
of directors is straightforward: I want Sunriver
to maintain – and where needed, reclaim – its
strategic advantage as the premier community
of its kind. A place that offers the best of nature,
family connection and year-round recreation,
without sacrificing the qualities that make it
truly special.
I want to help preserve and enhance Sunriver’s quality of life for our owners and visitors
while ensuring it stays relevant as a premier
vacation destination. To me, “quality of life”
includes our natural resources, amenities and
activities, and the value of the properties that
we all own. I have enjoyed serving on the Finance Committee. How an organization (or a
person) spends money is a solid reflection of
what they value. I hope to help SROA address
the ever-increasing costs for maintenance and
amenities that we will be facing in the coming years.
What professional or volunteer experiences do you bring that will enhance the board of directors?
My professional working career has been
mostly in local, small city and county government, primarily in the roles of community
development and city/county management.
Thus, I have experience with development,
public safety, utilities, streets, and parks. I
also served as a city councilor and mayor of
a small city.
Most of this work has been in Oregon,
some in Washington and California. Prior to
my government work, which started over 35
years ago, I spent short stints in the US Air
Force and as a secondary school teacher. I see
the SROA Board needing to address Sunriver’s
