‘Every Picture Tells a Story’ at Sunriver’s Nancy McGrath Green Gallery
This summer, Sunriver’s
Nancy McGrath Green Gallery
sets out to prove every picture
tells a story. In fact, that is the
title of the gallery’s summer
exhibit. Opening July 1, the
newest show features 12 artists from the High Desert Art
League (HDAL). Each artwork
is paired with a story written by
the artist.
HDAL is a group of professional Central Oregon artists
working in a range of styles
and mediums.
“Every Picture Tells a Story”
offers a sampling of media
including watercolor, photography, acrylic, mixed media,
pastels and encaustic painting.
There are a few unusual materials featured such as rice paper,
rustic wood, and dried wall
paint from a roller tray.
Visitors to the gallery can
'La Pine State Park Vista' by Joren Traveller, left and 'Silent Crossing' by Liz Haberman.
view each piece, then engage
further by reading the accompanying story.
Both Joren Traveller and
Liz Haberman bring iconic
Sunriver area images to the
show. Haberman’s watercolor
“Silent Crossing” captures
the regal stature of an elk
buck posing midstream in the
Deschutes. Traveller’s acrylic
“La Pine State Park Vista” depicts a favorite local viewpoint.
Other local scenes include Hosmer, Todd and Sparks lakes,
and Mt. Bachelor.
Exhibiting artists are Pamela Beaverson, Helen Brown,
Barbara Hudler Cella, Jan
Dow, Janet Frost, Liz Haberman, Karen Maier, Jacqueline
Newbold, Vivian Olsen, Janice
Rhodes, Joren Traveller and
Rebecca Sentgeorge.
The HDAL was created
more than 25 years ago to build
a community where like-mind-
ed Central Oregon artists could
share and highlight their visions
of the world around them.
Artwork in this exhibit reaches
from Cinque Terra to La Pine.
