Council on Aging of Central Oregon seeks Meals on Wheels drivers
The Council on Aging of
Central Oregon is calling on
local residents to help meet
a growing need for Meals on
Wheels drivers in the Sunriver
area.
The organization, which provides essential services for older
adults across Central Oregon,
is currently struggling to meet
demand for home-delivered
meals in this community.
For more than 50 years, the
Council on Aging has supported older adults and their
families in Crook, Deschutes,
Jefferson and North Klamath
counties through programs that
promote safety, wellness and
social connection.
Last year, the organization
delivered nearly 135,000 Meals
on Wheels.
In Sunriver, the program is a
vital lifeline for 20 older adults
who rely on regular meal deliveries and wellness check-ins.
Over the past year, volunteers have delivered more than
3,855 meals to these residents,
highlighting both the critical
need in the community and the
dedication of local volunteers.
In addition to Meals on
Wheels, the Council on Aging
offers a wide range of programs
and services to Sunriver residents, including:
• Community Dining: Nutritious lunches and social
connection opportunities at
dining sites throughout Central
Oregon including Bend and
La Pine.
• Caregiver Support: Information, resources, and respite
grants to help family caregivers
manage responsibilities and
find balance.
• Help Desk: Personalized
support to connect older adults
with programs and services that
meet their needs.
• Caring Connections:
Friendly phone calls and visits
that reduce isolation and build
community connections.
• Pet Pals: Pet food and

Volunteers needed in
Sunriver and neighboring
communities
Right now, the Council on
Aging urgently needs additional volunteer drivers to continue
meeting the demand for Meals
on Wheels in Sunriver and
neighboring communities.
Volunteers use their own vehicles and typically deliver one
morning per week with routes
lasting about two hours.
Mileage reimbursement is
provided.
Anyone with a few hours to
spare and an interest in helping
their Sunriver neighbors is encouraged to get involved.
