Memory cafes to begin in Sunriver at Sunriver Christian Fellowship
Sunriver Christian Fellowship (SCF) will be hosting
Memory Cafes, offering a welcoming space for connection,
creativity and conversation.
Cafes are a non-religious
community gathering for
anyone navigating memory
loss or caregiving.
Attend a Memory Cafe
Memory Cafes are scheduled
for Tuesday on May 19, June
16, July 21 and Aug. 18 from
1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at SCF,
18139 Cottonwood Road.

or call 541-593-1183 for
more information.
"We hope to continue the cafes into the fall and into 2027.
Each gathering will feature a
different theme with simple,
engaging activities such as music, storytelling, art or games
along with time to relax and
socialize. Light refreshments
will be provided," Rev. Kally
Elliott said.
The May café theme is “Road
Trips & Vacations” where participants will share their favorite vacation stories and enjoy an
ice cream sundae.
A Memory Cafe is a relaxed
social gathering for people experiencing changes in memory
or thinking, including those
living with dementia, along
with their family members,
friends and caregivers.
The focus is on enjoying time
together rather than discussing
medical concerns.
Participants are never asked
about diagnoses and are free to
share as much or as little about
their experiences as they wish.
Memory Cafes are designed
to be friendly, accessible community spaces where people can laugh, try something
new and meet others who
understand the challenges
and joys that can come with
memory changes.
They are not lectures or
clinical programs, but rather
opportunities for connection
and shared activities.
The cafes are free to attend
and open to anyone in the
community who would enjoy
an afternoon of conversation,
creativity and companionship.

Support your waterway: Annual Deschutes River cleanup in July
Volunteers will meet Saturday, July 11 at 9 a.m. to tackle
river cleanup activities along
the Deschutes River and its
riparian areas between La Pine
State Park and Tumalo State
Park, including stretches of
river along Sunriver.
This day is an opportunity
for watershed stewards to get
their hands dirty and feet wet
with community members,
local businesses and other partners to benefit the Deschutes
River and its riparian areas.
A dramatic increase in rec-
Page 24
reation in and around the
Deschutes River has led to
increased debris in the river and
along its streambanks.
The watershed council leads
this cleanup effort to keep the
river beautiful, protect water
quality and preserve habitat for
fish and wildlife. This annual
event would not be possible
without the incredible partners.
