A word about the board
“listening” compared with
“agreement.”
These are two different
things.
SROA must work within the
context of established policy
and must adhere to the board’s
responsibility relating to the interests of all property owners to
the betterment of our community, not solely to an individual
or small group interests.
It is not uncommon for
owner comments to lead to
direct board actions and initiatives. The important takeaway
is the opportunity for owners
to have their concerns, support or questions heard, with
a response upon request, in an
open, transparent setting and
process.
From my experience responding to owners, I find
that owners sometimes disagree with the outcome from
a personal point of view, but
nearly all appreciate having
been heard and having received
direct response.
A last word on board decisions and policy. Please do not
take disagreements out on staff.
Staff is following policies and
decisions established by the
board and as directed by the
general manager.
A note of encouragement
for homeowners’ awareness,
knowledge and participa-
tion. Currently, we have more
than 3,000 owners/household
signed up for electronic owner
notification/communications
(your e-mail addresses). That
may sound like nearly 75% of
the more than 4,100 homes
and units in Sunriver. Not
quite… some of the 3,000 represent multiple signups from
a single household or units
shared by multiple owners.
This is a voluntary opportunity,
not a requirement. However,
the individual owner and community benefits from such messaging, including awareness of
opportunities to provide input
on SROA operations, notices
of community events that may
be of interest (SHARC events
and activities, Oktoberfest,
etc.) and, most importantly,
safety related notices (wildfire,
weather events, road or facility
closures).
Our lofty goal is 100% signups so that owners can be
well-informed on matters that
impact your safety, home and
investment. It is easy to do, sign

Last, a reminder for owners
interested in running for the
SROA board. The deadline for
submitting applications is the
third Friday of March (March

It is a great and rewarding way to serve our amazing
community. The Nominating
Committee looks forward
to speaking with you. You

Owners forums
(summarized)
From Jan. 16 work session
• William Gill is concerned
about wildfire in Sunriver and
questioned if adequate steps are
being taken to address such. He
referenced a community wildfire forum in La Pine that had
Page 4
representatives from various
agencies and wants the SROA
Ladder Fuel Reduction Plan to
include the guidelines he heard
at the forum. He requested a
task force be created.
• Philo Hall first thanked the
board for the follow-up from
his comments at the December
meeting. He commented that
he is in favor of and supports a
new traffic circle and entrance
feature on Cottonwood Road
at the entry to Sunriver to help
slow traffic.
• A letter was included into
record from Michelle Walsh
commenting that the Board
should evaluate and correct
the cost sharing modeling
that SROA has been operating under to bring a fairer
cost sharing/use model to the
community.
FEBRUARY 2026 SUNRIVER SCENE
SROA Financial Report
There was no Finance Committee meeting in January.
December and January Financials will be reviewed
and approved at the February SROA Board meeting.
From Jan. 17 regular meeting
• Bill Weymer spoke about
fire safety as a follow up to
previous statements he made
in past months and the discussion at the previous day’s board
meeting. He submitted written
comments as well. He believes
that the board should create
a task force and/or standing
committee to address this issue.
He also suggested that SROA
hire an outside consultant to
assess fire rules/regulations in
Sunriver.

report: Role of
the SROA Finance
Committee
By Clark Pederson
The Finance Committee is
one of the most active committees in Sunriver. How is it
organized and what does it do?
The committee functions
under the authority and guidance of the Sunriver Owners
Association (SROA) Board
of Directors and serves in an
advisory capacity to the board.
It is comprised of seven to
10 members, all SROA owners. Currently, there are 10
members. It can include up to
four board of director members
including the board president
and treasurer. As the board
treasurer, I am the chair of the
committee.
Other board members serving on the committee are appointed by the Board President
and serve one-year terms. They
may be reappointed for additional terms.
The remaining members
are owners with an interest
in finance that volunteer to
serve. They are appointed by
the board at the recommendation of the chair of the Finance Committee. They serve
three-year terms. To provide
continuity the terms are staggered so that no more than two
non-board members expire in
any one year.
Non-board members may be
considered for re-appointment
to additional three-year terms if
needed to provide continuity or
expertise.
The committee may also
have up to three alternate
members. We currently have
two alternate members. They
participate in discussions however they do not have voting
rights. It is helpful to have
these additional members who
become familiar with SROA
finances and are prepared to
serve when a vacancy occurs on
the committee.
Committee actions
• Approved appointment of
Kara Kerker as a full member to
the Finance Committee.
• Approved appointment of
What does the committee do?
The committee supplies
financial oversight to SROA
finances. Responsibility includes:
• Review in detail the SROA
General Manager and management staff ’s proposed annual
operating budget, new capital
budget and capital reserve budget and submit the committee’s
recommendations to the board
prior to the December meeting.
Numerous meetings are held in
the fall to review these budgets.
A lot of committee time and
energy goes into overseeing the
