Chiefs & admin reports
Fire
–In December, there were
43 calls for the Sunriver Fire
Department, which included
28 EMS calls, 9 mutual aid,
15 public assist calls, 2 KnoxBox/smoke alarm installs and
2 public service assistance calls.
• Meeting again with Sunriver
Owners Association regarding
defensible space and home
hardening.
• Oregon State Fire Marshal transition to the National
Emergency Response Information System new fire reporting
system.
• Participated in Oregon
Fire Chiefs Association fire
chief roundtables and Oregon
State Fire Marshal Mobilization
Committee.
• Participated in police lieutenant interviews.
• Trainings included ropes
and company evolutions at the
Sunriver Marina.
• Chief Boos noted that
Deschutes County Commissioners adopted a home hardening code, effective April 1, for all
new home construction within unincorporated Deschutes
County.
Police
–In December, the Sunriver
Police Department received 512
calls for service, 44 of which
were emergencies. Officers
investigated 19 cases, made 5
arrests, responded to 20 suspicious persons, 7 animal issues,
conducted 130 traffic stops,
provided 61 community-policing responses and 122 security
checks.
• Lt. Van Meter talked briefly
about Sunriver’s license plate
reader system (Flock) and recent developments with the
City of Bend ceasing to use the
cameras after misuse of information via the Flock system
occurred in other states. Van
Meter said Sunriver’s data has
very good controls in place.
“What is happening in other
places is not affecting us,” he
said. “Sunriver’s Flock cameras
are not at risk for what’s happening in other systems.” Van
Meter noted it was recently used
to know if a missing individual
had left the community and,
thanks to Flock, was able to
determine the person had not.
• Contract negotiations continue with SROA on rules
enforcement and Bike Patrol.
No significant movement on
material items.
• Contract negotiations continue and there is tentative
language agreement between
the Sunriver Police Officers
Association and Collective Bargaining Agreement, with fiscal
proposals ready for review.
• Jason Van Meter has been
promoted to lieutenant.
• Offer made to a sergeant
position applicant.
• Entry level officer recruiting
is ongoing.
• Lt. Van Meter recently graduated from the FBI National
Academy. Van Meter stated he
was appreciative the district sent
him and that it was the best
and most amazing training of
his career.
• December community
events included Shop with a
Cop and Wonderland Express
activities at Sunriver Resort.
Administration
• Developing the FY 2027
budget.
• Submitted the FY 2025
audit to the State for review and
compliance.
• Conducted research on the
permissible use of legal funds
within the 717 account.
• Evaluated the sick leave sellback program for PERS Tier 1
and Tier 2 employees.
• Coordinated with the insurance provider and communicated the FSA benefit transition
from PacificSource to PNC
to staff.
• Prepared data and informational materials for the
voluntary separation buyout
program.
• Met with Deschutes County Human Resources to discuss
best practices for administering
Equal Pay Act requirements
within the district.
• Continue research regarding the potential expansion
of police-only services to the
Crosswater/Caldera area.
• Collaborated with the
Nominating Committee to
promote current vacancies and
continued progress on the committee manual.
• Drafted and submitted a
news story to the Scene highlighting Jason Van Meter’s
attendance at the FBI National
Academy and his promotion to
lieutenant.
• Facilitating the onboarding
of Rachel Popp, executive assistant for the SSD.
Other business
–The meeting adjourned at
