Knitting for Beginners:
Let’s Get the Basics First
Wednesday, Feb. 3 - March
17, 9 to 11 a.m. at SHARC
Crescent Room. Instructor:
Jane Boubel
In this six-week series, you
will learn basic knitting techniques and stitches, including
how to cast on and off, knit
and purl. As the participants
become comfortable with those
techniques, others will be added. At the first class, Jane will
share materials and supplies
that will make the knitting
experience more enjoyable and
distribute a supply list for the
participants to purchase for the
second class. Once participants
have the basics down, she will
help them select a pattern for a

Register just once, for the
Feb. 3 class, to enroll in the
6-week series (Feb. 3, 10, 17,
and 24, and March 3, 10 and
17). There will be one intervening week with no class.
The instructor will notify the
students of the week with no
class as soon as her schedule is
known. While a waiting list will
be formed in case anyone needs
to cancel, don’t wait, the class
is limited to eight participants.
Jane Boubel has been knitting for more than 60 years.
Her mother taught her the
basics, and she knitted her first
sweater when she was just 12
years old.

studied historic scripts. In this
class we will learn a modern
hand, Bone. The rules are less
stringent, which will give you
some creative license. The inks
we will be using are Bister Powder Inks, which are rich earthtoned and can be adjusted for
color intensity and blended to
make new colors. This class
is for everyone, regardless of
experience. If you have never
done calligraphy before, jump
