Gallery artists create with the promise of spring
“I paint flowers so they will
never die!” –Frida Kahlo
Painter Frida Kahlo’s quote
exemplifies the feelings of many
of the 35 local artists at Artists’
Gallery Sunriver in The Village
at Sunriver. They all seek to
capture the moment of fleeting beauty in their mind’s eye,
through their photography,
painting, pottery and other
artistic mediums.
April’s two featured artists
capture Oregon’s beauty and
the promise of spring and summer with their beautiful renditions of colors and flowers.
Paintings by Bill Hamilton
Bill Hamilton uses color to
capture a moment in time,
such as beautiful poppies with a
snow-covered Mt. Hood as the
backdrop. There are a variety
of images created by Hamilton
at the gallery from artful birds
to the Cascade Mountains, all
with a special eye for color.

in California galleries.

Painting by Bill Hamilton
“I continued to draw all
through my school years. After high school, I enrolled in
Oregon Technical Institute’s
two-year program combining commercial illustration
and technical illustration,”
Hamilton said. “My day job
was drawing and painting
for various aerospace and research companies. My ability
as an easel painter continued
to improve. By that time, I was
painting in oil, watercolor and
acrylic, both at work and for
the galleries.”
In 1993, Hamilton’s family moved to Oregon. He has
painted full time since then,

Blue Spruce Pottery
Blue Spruce Pottery has
created a much loved and
functional style of pottery in
Central Oregon for more than
45 years.
Enjoy your morning coffee
or tea in a mug that captures
the Cascade Mountain range,
which is the primary design
inspiration on many of the pottery pieces. Their latest vessel
designs can display flowers in
an Ikebana style vase.
Every pottery piece is made
one at a time on a potter’s wheel
or hand-crafted from slabs of
clay. The owners also make
their clay and glazes from raw
materials. The clay formula was
developed by Michael Gwinup,
and the glazes are all recipes
that have been tried and tested
throughout the years.
Fired in a gas kiln to 2,200
degrees makes the pottery exceptionally durable. All pieces
are functional, food safe and
made to be used and enjoyed.
The lead-free stoneware is
dishwasher and microwave safe.
Visit these and other artists
for the gallery’s monthly Second Saturday and party with
the artists event on April 11
from 4 to 6 p.m. Wine and
appetizers will be served.
