Quilt fundraiser benefits local children
The fourth Bend Food Project Quilt Sale exceeded all
expectations, raising $54,729
to buy food for local children.
More than 400 beautiful,
handcrafted quilts were donated to this colorful and popular
fundraiser.
The sale was held in November at the Unitarian Fellowship
in Bend.
Bend Food Project Director
Sue Marceaux said the quilt
sale is now the single biggest
fundraiser for the Bend Food
Project.
“We are so grateful to the local quilters for making this such
a wonderful event and raising

such a large sum of money to
feed kids,” Marceaux said.
The sale had a modest start
in 2022 when two Sunriver
residents and longtime quilters
Judy Johnson and Sandra Henderson realized that they had
accumulated too many quilts.
What began as a simple effort to sell some of their excess
quilts, quickly expanded as other quilters, many from Sunriver,
learned about the sale.
The first quilt sale featured
150 quilts and raised almost
$15,000 to buy food for local
children.
To date, more than 1,000
quilts have been donated, rais-
ing a total of $130,000.
One hundred percent of the
proceeds from the quilt sale are
used to buy food that is distributed via The Giving Plate’s Kid’s
Corner in Bend and The Giving
Plate’s Mobile Kid Pantry that
travels to various locations in
Deschutes County.
Many Sunriver quilters have
contributed their handiwork
to the quilt sale, including
Sunriver quilter Lori Hecker.
“It’s such a great cause and it
allows me to support kids in our
community dealing with food
insecurity by doing something
I love,” Hecker said.

Check the roof

for rapid ignition.
Clear all forest debris from
