SROA Compliance Corner: New Compliance Officer
An unusually mild winter is
quickly giving way to spring,
and changes are in the air. From
the temperature to the smell of
new foliage growth the unmistakable feel and smell of spring
is becoming more noticeable.
Another change in the air
you might not be aware of is
the hiring of a dedicated, threequarter-time Compliance Officer who will soon be trekking
and traversing around Sunriver.
So, what does this new change
mean for property owners?
First and foremost, it means
that there will be another
SROA staff member available
to help answer questions and
educate owners with specific
regard to Sunriver’s rules. This
new hire will provide owners
with another valuable resource

and commercial parcels, and
they processed the resulting
data. Private property owners
most at risk of or currently
facing enforcement action associated with ladder fuels conditions on their properties are

conditions, treatment requirements, available resources and
assistance, deadlines and pos-

to aid in the quest for compliance. Whether you have questions about parking, pathways,
pets or smoking – your ability
to receive answers will occur at
a faster pace.
Second, there will also be
quicker response times which
should lead to quicker resolution times regarding owner
complaints and concerns. For
example, when a family of
rambunctious raccoons get into
a neighboring trash enclosure
and makes a mess. Or, perhaps,
a patented Sunriver cedar light
shield gets knocked off and no
longer directs light downward
and now blasts directly into
your living room.
Additionally, this new member of SROA’s staff will help
alleviate some of the responsibilities of other SROA depart-
ments – in turn allowing staff
members of those departments
to focus on the specific issues
that their departments are
required to address. This new
position will also result in
faster response times for owners
reaching out to the Community Development Department
with questions about their
project applications and the
design review process. Waiting
times for final inspections of
recently completed improvement projects will also decrease.
In conclusion, the hiring of a
dedicated Compliance Officer
brings about an exciting new
change that will benefit the
community in a variety of ways.
Specifically how will you
benefit? You will just have to

sible penalties.
Notices associated with compliance with the Sunriver LFR
Plan were mailed to owners
within the last week of March
or first week of April. Deficient
properties are required to be
brought into compliance by
July 1, 2026.
Owners who received a notice regarding ladder fuels on
their property this spring are
encouraged to take immediate
action.
“We’re here to help,” SROA
Natural Resources Director
Patti Gentiluomo said, “We
are happy to answer questions,
meet with owners and offer
support and assistance.”
Owners who do not receive
a notice, however, should not
assume all conditions on their
properties meet the mandatory
standards in the Sunriver LFR
Plan.
Gentiluomo reminds property owners that formal notices
are only sent to property owners facing enforcement action
this season or in the future.
“Don’t wait until you receive
notice to take action,” Gentiluomo said. “Perform a Ladder
Fuels Self-Assessment, which is
available on the SROA website,
at least once a year and make
sure all conditions on your
property meet the standards in
the Sunriver LFR Plan.”

or any combustible materials
from around, under or on top
of your deck, patio or wood
fence/enclosures. This includes
toys, planters, construction

• Is your woodpile near your

woodpiles should be at least
