Mystery Book Club
Mystery Book Club members will discuss “The Saint of
Thieves” by Dana Haynes via
Zoom on Monday, April 6 at
6 p.m. and at the bookstore
on Monday, April 13 at 4:30
p.m. Haynes’ books have been
a favorite of the Mystery Book
Club.
Michael Patrick Finnigan,
a former New York cop, and
Katalin Fiero Dahar, a former
Spanish assassin, formed St.
Nicholas Salvage and Wrecking
to go after the worst bad people
on the planet.
They have been wildly successful, even taking down operations that eluded the security
services of major countries.
Along the way, alliances have
been formed.
The Black Harts, a cadre
of inventive, efficient thieves
ran by Sally Blue, have proven
invaluable. When Mercer calls
because Sally Blue is in trouble,
Finnigan and Fiero do not
hesitate, immediately flying to
Rome. Sally Blue and Mercer
were going to meet in a rented apartment. When Mercer
arrived, he found blood and
no sign of Sally Blue. It is not
a lot to go on, but Fiero and
Finnigan are the best at finding
the truth.
Finnigan comes from generations of New York cops.
Unfortunately, his dad was
dirty, and Finnigan has reason
to suspect his dad is in more
trouble. That knowledge will
bear on the disappearance of
Sally Blue when he finds out
an old compadre of his father’s
is involved.
Fiero’s relationship with her
parents is also complicated.
Her father, Alexandro Fiero,
is an influential businessman,
philanthropist, a Spanish aristocrat and third cousin to the
king of Spain. Her mother,
Khadija Fiero, is an Algerian
academic and activist. Katlin is
not exactly what they expected
their daughter to be.

interesting programs. Sunriver
Books supports the selection
with a book club discussion.
This year’s book, “Supersonic” by Thomas Kohnstamm
will be discussed by the Fiction
Book Club Monday, April 20
at 6 p.m. via Zoom and Monday, April 27, 4:30 p.m. at the
bookstore.
Set in Seattle, the story covers
history from the arrival of the
white settlers to 2025, with a
cast of interesting characters.
• Sami Hasegawa-Stalworth
loved her grandmother, Masako, and admired her accomplishments as a teacher and
felt her contributions to the
community warranted renaming Stevenson Elementary in
her honor. Sami is president
of the PTA. Her four children
attended the school, and there
is a long list of signatures on
a petition for renaming the
school, so she believes she may
have some pull with the new
principal. She is unprepared
for his confidential disclosure
that the district is planning to
close the school. Something
will have to be done to change
its fortune.
• In 1971, Larry thinks things
might finally be going right for
him. He has a good job with
Boeing and is excited about
making it a career building the
planes of the future. There also
is an attractive young lady he
wants desperately to be part of
his life. Note the date. If you
know Seattle history, it gives
a clue that his hopeful future
could have some clouds on the
horizon.
•Bruce pins his hopes on
opening a store selling weed –
now that it is legal – and proving to his soon to be ex-wife
that he can succeed. Maybe if
he makes a go of it, she will take
him back. Meanwhile, bringing
his daughter Sierra home late
isn’t helping his case.
Japanese internment, technology, the aerospace industry
and many interesting events
and people who made Seattle
are part of the story.
