My Father’s Story: WWII
Japanese American
Internment Camps
Tuesday, April 7, 3 p.m. at
SHARC. Instructor: Yukiko
Flennaugh (née Nakada)
What would you do if you
had less than a week to pack
one bag and leave your home,
not knowing if you would
ever return? John Nakada was
an 11-year-old boy when the
U.S. entered World War II. As
a Japanese American, he was
torn away from his life even
though he was a U.S. citizen.
His daughter, Yukiko, will share
her father’s stories and experience of internment. This class
is offered as a collaboration
between Deschutes Public Library and Sunriver You. It will
feature short videos of John
Nakada telling his story.
Flennaugh is honored to
share her father's story. Nakada,
93, is living in a memory care
